Flying cockroaches and the reaction they evoke

A very funny and random incident took place today. I was on my bed. The windows behind me were wide open. A cockroach came flying inside and landed on me with pride. Now readers, this is not the first time that such a thing had happened. I am sure it won't be the last time either. What puzzles me is that how can they fly with their round creepy shape from the ground floor to the first floor in the absence of light. I am not looking for any scientific explanation. Now let's get back to the landing of the cockroach. I screamed. Apologies to the neighbors who are not reading this post and will hopefully not read this blog. Did I ever tell my readers before, that I am afraid of cockroaches. When it comes to flying cockroaches, my courage disappears within a fraction of a second. A cockroach not in motion is always okay. But the sight of a cockroach moving or flying is not pleasant.

Rajasthan has taught me to deal with bees. Unlike some brave souls, I can't coexist with them. If I see one, either I chase them away ( if it's daytime) or kill them ( if it's at night). I remember getting stung once by a bee inside a bus. The memory still hurts.

But the point of my blog is not just to humour my readers with stories of creepy insects who made my heart skip many beats at a time. The blog is to share my experience of telling the story to a male and a female. Both friends. Same age like mine.

When I told it to my female friend, she could relate to it and was more than happy to share two three experiences of her own with cockroaches as well as lizards. I consider this to be a human reaction. My male friend however had a different angle to it. He said how I can easily kill it with a chappal ( sandal) or anything that's flat and heavy.  Since we were talking over phone I could hear him slam his chappal on the floor. I could comprehend that he was in action with an imaginary cockroach whom he considered his enemy. I couldn't stop laughing. I had amazed my male friend with such a reaction. I wish I could tell him on his face how funny the whole thing appeared to me who was on the other side of the phone.

I am not saying men are complicated and women are not. I suppose I have proven that many times before on this blog and shall do it again as I gain more experience. But think for a moment. Isn't this quite worthy a content for a stand up comedy show?
