Waste and Filth
Do you know what's wrong with people and this country?I will give you a hint. Some days back i went in search of my paying guest accommodation in Kolkata and on visiting the place,i tried ringing the door bell quite a few times but nobody answered, except for a dog who was barking loudly.I soon learned, that it was a pet but something that kept on bothering me was the fact that,i could see from the window that the fan and light of the room in the ground floor was switched on,yet nobody answered.I tried to peep in,and indeed there was noone and then suddenly i saw an aged lady pass by,and before i interrogated her on it,she informed me that the light and fan was in the switch on mode because of the pet dog,who by the way was no where inside the room but resting itself on the stairs, close to the entrance door. How do i know?As i said,i peeped in.I was not shocked by the lady's comment, but i was definitely upset.I have always been very economical in my life, one reason that people often treat my way of economizing as a mere act of misery. So if you ask me,i will say,i always try not to waste and since everyone does not share the same mentality,i don't and i won't mind if people refer me as a miser because just like people judge me,i judge them too. How?On two grounds mainly.Firstly i think that such people are born in an environment, which has more than enough goods and money for their survival, such that they don't think twice before wasting anything.Secondly, they are selfish and too foolish,to even think something beyond them and their family and don't bother much about what others do.Such people are hardly capable of bringing any change to the society and people belonging to this group, often claim themselves as 'intellectuals', mind you. When it comes to me,i definitely talked about it with the house owner when i met him next.He smiled and tried to confirm it to me,that it was his daughter's fault.I asked him with a smirk on my face,'Who is the daughter's father?'.He smiled again.Hope he got his answer.Further,in my hometown Durgapur, there are many factories which have shut down permanently like MAMC,FERTILIZER PLANT,GLASS FACTORY,etc. These all belonged to Public Sector and the people working in such places were given quarters of their own by the government. After the companies were shut down, permanently, the factory workers and their families were asked to empty the quarters, and now these quarters lie completely empty, the outer walls of the quarters, degrading day by day,yet they lie there while there are so,literally so many underpriviledged people in Durgapur, who lie on streets, and have no roofs above their heads. These empty ghastly quarters can be surely put to good use by the Government,i am sure. After having worked for two months in a Ngo,i can also confirm that not all put in their best efforts to run a NGO.Sadly there is dirty politics in a NGO as well and people become members, more to attain a status than from any humble feeling for the kids or aged or physically challenged people of an NGO.Most of us are so much inside our box that we fail to realize the unimportance and insignificance of events.I can only dream of a better future like many, but will that dream ever materialize? And sadly we know the answer and only nincompoops would avoid thinking over my post and it is not unexpected.
